Tracing the history of dance Dame Margot takes us back to the Versailles of Louis XIV and Russia in the nineteenth century, and forward to the success of Isadora Duncan, Pavolva, Nijinsky and Nureyev. Taking her examples from wherever dance has flourished, she reveals patterns and meanings in the past which can explain how ballet may develop in the future.

This book arises out of the BBC 2 six-part series of the same title.
